Hypnosis is a state of mind which is enhanced by a mental and physical relaxation where we are able communicate with the subconscious part of our minds. This 'trance' state can be brought on by ourselves or with the help of another person who is trained in hypnosis. Have you ever been walking or driving somewhere, only to arrive and not seem to have a recollection of the journey? This is a natural form of hypnosis that our minds go into on a daily basis. Our conscious mind appears to be 'switched off' but our subconscious mind is always working in the back ground a bit like the software on your computer.
Hypnosis is often accepted as a way to access and unlock the inner potential of our minds and when undertaken by an appropriately trained person (Hypnotherapist), Hypnosis can be used to influence positive change in our thought processes and subsequent behaviours associated with them.
The aim of Hypnotherapy is to help a client to overcome unwanted feelings, habits and behaviours and to find positive alternatives ways to express and manage these by helping them to become more accepting of themselves and unlock their true potential and right to live a happy and meaningful life.
Hypnotherapy is where various techniques such as guided imagery, metaphor, regression, sub modalities and many others including direct suggestion are used to help the client to make positive changes in their lives and behaviours. This is done by inducing a relaxed state and speaking directly to the subconscious mind. The client must be open and willing to make and accept the changes as they still have free will and full control of themselves to make those decisions. It is important that clients also feel comfortable and at ease with their therapist and that they have confidence in the practitioner carrying out the therapy.
Unlike a lot of other psychological therapies, Hypnotherapy is considered a short term therapy as the positive changes and benefits will be seen after a few sessions, depending on the issue and the client's willingness to change themselves.
